In 1986, the creation of a unique land plan began: to combine a complete wildlife habitat with the highest standards of home building. With the concerned efforts of state and local government agencies, environmental groups, land planners, and years of studies, the vision became reality.

An ignored point of land on the bay became a unique combination of bayfront, wetlands, and free water lagoons.

The Lagoon and Sanctuary
Home to one of the largest arrays of bay area and migratory waterfowl, the lagoon is a miracle of reclamation.

Dredging and re-engineering for nesting islands and maximum fresh water retention was the first step. Ducklings require fresh water for drinking until their salt glands develop. Adult birds are also attracted to fresh drinking water.

Over the years, wetlands of this kind have all but disappeared. Consequently, the lagoons have become the feeding and resting sanctuary for thousands of native and migratory birds and animals.
