A Special Note from the Seller………….

The fantastic view, the layout of the 2 acre property that protects ones privacy completely and the beauty of the garden are what I personally love most …

Now in winter, the ‘fire barrier meadow’ (outside the fenced in garden) is lush and green. Every morning and evening you can see deer grazing out there. In the summer of course the meadow turns into a golden brown and is bordered by over 50 oleander plants in red, pink and white. The oleander is so well established that it does not need any watering even during the hot summer months (though water is available below the fenced in yard as well, in case one wants to start a veggie garden on the level area).

Imagine yourself starting your day with a cup of hot coffee at this time a year, looking out at the ocean of fog down below the property covering the valley like the mists of Avalon – it is breathtaking … just as breathtaking as the view in the evening looking down at the lights of Bel Marin Key and across the bay to Oakland and Emeryville. A little girl visiting us one day looked down from the balcony at the lights below and said “oh, I can make a thousand wishes with all those sparkling stars” (referring to the lights in the valley below), it was sweet – and completely imaginable.

The fenced in garden is laid out for low maintenance and little need for water. Though almost all of the areas have either drippers or sprinklers, the watering system is set to water each area in rotation only every third day and the plants are doing wonderful and are very healthy.

You will enjoy roses in yellows, different shades of pink, reds, white … you name it. There is a large area dedicated as a California cactus garden that is covered with orange poppy in the spring. The wonderful Myer lemon bears fruit all year round, the oranges will be sweet and juicy in February and March, the plums are full and lush and the figs are a gift if one likes to make jam and serve it with a nice cheese in the evening to enjoy with a glass of wine while relaxing on the balcony or by the pool.

There is even a small, gopher safe vegetable bed below the statue of St. Francis, that get’s watered with the sprayers along the fence.

My favorite time a year is probably mid summer when the silk tree is in full bloom and the jasmine growing under the main deck and along the pool wall diffuses it’s dreamy scent into the evening air …

The garden, the decks, the large open main area of the house simply invite for casual or formal entertaining. Even though the official dining area in the house is rather small, we have had formal sit down dinners with 80 + people in the candle lit garden, the living room seats a group of 20 / 24 comfortably in a formal setting, or – for the more casual fair one can set up a buffet on the dining table and entertain on the large main balcony / deck, or serve an intimate dinner for 8 / 10 in the cozy library on a winter night next to a lovely fire in the fireplace. Whatever one’s heart desires, the house and the property offer the perfect background setting and the space.

The front yard has been changed from a difficult to maintain lawn into a “dry creek bed” look with oak trees, oleander, a beautiful Japanese maple and a large, white magnolia tree. This area also needs very little water.

All garden equipment can be stored easily accessible in the little garden shed that is hidden on the lower west corner of the fenced in yard. One may give the gardener a key which only allows access to the shed while the main keys for the owners open the house, the garage and the shed with just one key.

The timer for the sprinkler system is located in the garage on the west wall. The system is usually shut off from October until the beginning of May, all plants are so well established that no watering is needed during that time a year, one can simply sit back and enjoy the spectacular view!
